School Giving Day Case Study:
‘Our Boys, Our Future’

On the 12th of October 2021, Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) hosted their Giving Day campaign “Our Boys, Our Future”, and exceeded their goal by raising $333,782.

A Giving Day is a 24-hour gamified matched donation event designed to bring together the community of new and current supporters to:

– generate awareness
– acquire new donors
– raise money to support your work


Matched Giving Days inspires more generous donations

The school was able to secure 15 matching partners to pledge a total of $150,000. This is a significant increase from the previous year.

The major donor gifts meant that they could match the value of all donations x2. That means a donation of $250 becomes $500.

Leveraging the existing relationships with corporate partners inspired the BBC community to give more as they can see their donation double in real-time.


Fundraise for two or more school projects

Funds raised for the Our Boys, Our Future campaign focused on two important causes.

Donors were given the choice to donate to either the:

Building Fund: to maintain the historical establishment (over 119 years old).
Bursary Fund: to provide scholarships for underprivileged families who wouldn’t have the opportunity otherwise.


Proven plan of attack for campaign success

The preparation for BCC’s Giving Day began two months ahead of the campaign date providing ample time to plan, design, and execute the perfect creative concept and fundraising strategy for the school.

Hosted on the mycause platform, BBC had access to fully branded and customizable fundraising features including:

Students spearheading the campaign

The BBC students were heavily involved in the fundraising campaign showing a strong sense of school community.

The students filmed a 4-minute campaign video (edited by the mycause team), volunteered their time to phone would-be donors and actively raised awareness about the campaign to their communities.
